Adapting to a Changing Climate
Recently, two symposia were held that focused on how climate change could affect food production: "Adapting Agriculture to a Changing Prairie Climate," held March 4, 2010 in Winnipeg, MB, and "Implications of Increasing Climate Variability on Agriculture in the Great Plains," a companion meeting held March 9, 2010 in Kansas City, MO. At these events, participants focused on raising the dialogue on issues facing agriculture across the Great Plains, known as the wheat bread basket of North America. The Canadian Agri-Food Policy Institute (CAPI) played an active role at these two events; these gatherings provided a basis for the development of ideas and approaches to address the impacts of climate variability.
