CAPI working as a catalyst for change

OTTAWA, July 17, 2008 — The Canadian Agri-Food Policy Institute (CAPI) has embarked on several projects to help Canada attain a competitive, sustainable, and healthy agri-food sector. These projects are documented in CAPI's 2007-08 annual report, A catalyst for change.

The report describes CAPI's vision and mission, history, governance, membership, approach, recent projects, and finances. In 2007-08, CAPI worked on projects in its three thematic areas: competitiveness, sustainability, and health.

The annual report describes a global agri-food economy in the throes of transition. "In view of globalization, Canada's agri-food sector will need to reinvent itself in order to compete and prosper in the future. I foresee CAPI making a significant contribution to this renewal," said CAPI Chair Gaëtan Lussier in the report.

As detailed in the report, CAPI is an independent organization dedicated to the long-term health and success of Canada's agri-food sector. CAPI identifies emerging issues and trends that influence agriculture and merit analyses. It brings together industry leaders to provide their views, and fosters debate on topics of interest to all parties throughout the value chain. CAPI works to keep Canada's agri-food sector at the leading edge of the global marketplace.
