OTTAWA, February 16, 2009 — On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Agri-Food Policy Institute (CAPI), Chair Gaëtan Lussier is pleased to announce the appointment of David McInnes as President and Chief Operating Officer of CAPI, effective immediately.
"David's broad experience in strategic planning, public affairs and partnership-development will help CAPI to build on its work to date and shape the long-term policy framework essential for the renewal of the Canadian agri-food sector," said Mr. Lussier.
"Canada's agri-food sector today supports the daily nutrition and health of Canadians, employs one in eight people in Canada and is an export success story. I look forward to working with stakeholders to advance ideas on the most pertinent policy issues facing the future of this important sector," said Mr. McInnes.
"With David on board, and working with our partners, I am confident that CAPI will become the pre-eminent independent forum on the future of Canada's agri-food sector," added Mr. Lussier.
The Canadian Agri-Food Policy Institute provides an independent voice on long-term issues facing the agriculture and agri-food sector. CAPI is a catalyst. As a policy forum, it identifies significant emerging issues and trends and promotes dialogue across the diverse value chain, and among academia, research institutes and governments, in order to advance the success of Canada's agriculture and agri-food sector. Based in Ottawa, CAPI was established as a non-profit corporation in 2004 by the federal government and is guided by a diverse Board of Directors and an Advisory Committee.

Biography of David McInnes
Prior to becoming President and Chief Operating Officer of the Canadian Agri-Food Policy Institute, David McInnes held a number of executive positions at MDS Nordion, a major life sciences company. Most recently, he was the company's Vice-President, International Relations. He has also worked for the Canadian Bankers Association, the Bank of Nova Scotia, and the Royal Commission on the Economic Union and Development Prospects for Canada. David has been a director of the Greater Ottawa Chamber of Commerce (Second Vice-Chair), the Ottawa Life Sciences Council (Vice-Chair), the Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation (OCRI) and the U.S.-based Council of Radionuclides and Radiopharmaceuticals. As well, David was the Chair of OCRI's medical technology cluster, Ottawa MedTech, and under the auspices of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce was the Chair of its first Border Contingency Task Force and Vice-Chair of its Ottawa Liaison Committee. Among published articles on consumer protection and self-regulation, David has published the book Taking It to the Hill: the Complete Guide to Appearing Before Parliamentary Committees (2nd edition, University of Ottawa Press, 2006). He has been an Associate with the University of Ottawa's Centre on Governance and is a graduate of the London School of Economics (Master of Science, Politics and Government) and Dalhousie University (B.A., Political Science).
